Shropshire and Telford 11 plus

Two, and both of them are in the same market town. Newport Girls' High School admits girls, and Haberdashers' Adams admits boys, with a small boarding house: the school publishes that up to 15 boarders are admitted into Year 7. Newport sits inside Telford and Wrekin, which is why families across Shropshire, Staffordshire and Telford all end up looking at the same two names.

One line on scope, since it is the next question a Shropshire family asks: this page covers the two schools that use the shared West Midlands entrance test, and it does not cover the independent schools in the county, which set their own admissions arrangements rather than admitting on this paper. If you are looking at one of those, the school itself is the only place to read what it asks for.

Neither school writes its own paper. Warwickshire County Council, describing the same assessment from the other end of the region, states that it is “a shared test between the Warwickshire, Birmingham, Walsall, Wolverhampton and Shropshire Grammar Schools”, so one registration and one sitting also cover Queen Mary's Grammar School in Walsall, Wolverhampton Girls' High School and the Birmingham schools.

Because they publish one. For entry in September 2027, both Newport Girls' High School and Haberdashers' Adams published Monday 14 September 2026 as the test date, while the Birmingham schools and Queen Mary's Grammar School in Walsall published Saturday 12 September 2026. Telford and Wrekin Council names the same Monday for its two selective schools.

The registration, the marking and the result are shared. The sitting is not. A family naming schools on both sides of that line should read each school's own letter rather than assuming one date covers everything, and should expect the arrangements for the two days to arrive separately.

Haberdashers' Adams publishes the same closing time, 4pm on Friday 26 June 2026, with an earlier deadline of Friday 12 June 2026 for a child with special educational needs, and describes its results as arriving in mid-October and the local authority deadline as the end of October.

The consortium's own site now records that registration as closed. Registering for the test is not an application for a place, and the two go to different organisations four months apart. How to register for the West Midlands 11 plus takes the registration half slowly.

Whichever of the two days your child ends up sitting, the paper behind it is the same one. Full mock rehearsals are part of full membership rather than the trial, and they unlock from Year 4.

Both Newport schools publish a reasonable adjustments deadline as well as a registration deadline, and the two are a fortnight apart. Newport Girls' High School gives 4pm on Friday 12 June 2026 for the adjustments form against 4pm on Friday 26 June 2026 for registration. Haberdashers' Adams publishes the same pair, describing 12 June as the earlier deadline for a child with special educational needs.

Access arrangements, which the consortium timetable calls reasonable adjustments, are the practical changes that let a child sit the same paper on fair terms. In practice that means additional time, an enlarged or otherwise modified paper, a coloured overlay, planned rest breaks, or a separate room rather than a hall.

They exist for children who are already supported in some way: a child with an education, health and care plan, a child on the school's SEN register, a child with a diagnosed condition affecting reading, writing, attention, hearing, sight or health, or a child who is routinely given extra time in class assessments. The evidence has to come from the child's school, because it is the school that can describe what a child normally receives, so this begins as a conversation with the class teacher or the SENCo and not as a form filled in at home.

The practical consequence is worth stating flatly. Registering inside the June deadline everyone talks about is not the same as making the June deadline that would have mattered to your child, and the second one shuts first. If any of the descriptions above fits your family, raise it in the spring term of Year 5.

The one you pay council tax to, not the one the school sits in. The two schools are in Telford and Wrekin, so a family living in Shropshire applies to Shropshire Council and names a Telford school on the form.

Telford and Wrekin also sets out the two-step nature of the thing on its own admissions page: it names Haberdashers' Adams and Newport Girls' High School as the schools needing an entrance test, gives 26 June 2026 as the registration deadline and 14 September 2026 as the test date, and says these schools must also be listed on the ordinary online application. That is the only forward-looking window we could read anywhere in the West Midlands on 5 September 2026, rechecked on 6 September 2026. The consortium had not published its next registration dates, and no other school had either. If your child is in Year 4 now, that Adams page is the earliest honest signal of the shape of your year, and the shape it suggests matches every cycle we have been able to read so far: register in the May and June of Year 5, sit the test in the September of Year 6. One published cycle is a pattern to plan around rather than a rule, so check the dates when they appear.

One thing to hold alongside it, because a Year 4 parent reading a page like this one is the reader most at risk of starting a two-year sprint. Most children who sit this test will not be offered a place at a selective school, and that is a fact about the number of places in Newport rather than a fact about any child.
