Wolverhampton 11 plus: entry at eleven

One school in the city itself. Wolverhampton Girls' High School on Tettenhall Road is the only Wolverhampton school in the shared West Midlands arrangement, and it takes girls at eleven. No boys' school in the city belongs to that arrangement, which is the first thing most families here discover and the reason this page spends as much space on the neighbours as on the school.

That the school belongs to the shared arrangement is published, not inferred. Warwickshire County Council, describing the same assessment from the far side of the region, states that it is “a shared test between the Warwickshire, Birmingham, Walsall, Wolverhampton and Shropshire Grammar Schools”, and the consortium site names Wolverhampton among the areas its selective schools sit in.

The ones on the same test, because a child sits it once and the result travels. The nearest of them publish their own dates, and only those published dates appear here.

Count the sitting days rather than the schools. Three are published across the partnership for this cycle: the Saturday the Birmingham and Walsall schools named, the pair of days Warwickshire named, and the Monday the two Newport schools named. The registration, the marking and the result are shared. The sitting is not, and neither, in Warwickshire's case, is the registration.

So a Wolverhampton family that names only Wolverhampton, Walsall and Birmingham schools has one registration and one morning to think about. Add a Newport school and there is a second day in a different hall. Add a Warwickshire school and there is a second registration as well, on the county's own portal and with a closing time of its own. Because the paper is the same wherever a child sits it, the preparation is the same too. Two separate steps, four months apart, sent to two different organisations. Registration for the test is made on the shared consortium site during the summer term of Year 5. The consortium's own site records the registration for entry in September 2027 as closed, with the deadline given as 4pm on 26 June 2026.

The application for a school place goes to City of Wolverhampton Council. The council publishes online applications opening on 10 September 2026 for Year 7 places in September 2027, a deadline of 31 October 2026, and allocation day on 1 March 2027, when a family finds out which school has been offered.

Nothing about the council application registers a child for the test, and nothing about the test registration applies for a place. The two are separate, and it is an easy gap to fall into. Two forms, two organisations, four months apart, and only one of them is about what a child can do. Reasonable adjustments, also called access arrangements, are the changes that make a shared paper fair to sit: extra time, an enlarged or modified paper, a coloured overlay, rest breaks, or a separate room instead of a hall full of children.

They are meant for children who already have support of that kind. A child with an education, health and care plan, a child on the school's SEN register, a child with a diagnosed condition affecting reading, writing, attention, hearing, sight or health, or a child who is given extra time in ordinary school assessments, all belong in this conversation. The evidence is the school's to give, so the request begins with the class teacher or the SENCo rather than with a form a parent fills in alone.

Wolverhampton families register on the same shared consortium portal as Birmingham, Walsall and Shropshire families, and that portal publishes two different closing dates. Reasonable adjustments closed at 4pm on Friday 12 June 2026. Registration itself closed at 4pm on Friday 26 June 2026. The earlier one is the one that is easy to lose, because it falls a fortnight before the date that gets talked about, and a parent can be well inside the registration deadline and past the adjustments deadline on the same afternoon. Results come back before the preference form closes, and that ordering is deliberate. The King Edward VI Foundation publishes results to families by Friday 16 October 2026 for this cycle, three weeks in front of the 31 October application deadline City of Wolverhampton Council publishes, so a family knows the score before it has to commit to a preference order.

What comes back is a standardised score rather than a mark out of a total. The Foundation states that “the scores for each section are standardised to take into account differences in age, meaning younger children are not disadvantaged compared to children in the same cohort who could be almost a year older”, and that it does not publish raw scores or the number of marks available. The number sets whether a child qualifies and, where a school ranks, where they sit in the order. It is not an offer. The offer comes from the council on 1 March 2027, from the form submitted in October.

It is worth knowing in September that most children who sit this test will not be offered a selective place, because the number of places is far smaller than the number of candidates, and that is a fact about arithmetic rather than about a child. On 5 September 2026 the school's Year 7 admissions page was headed for 2027 entry and carried a section titled Timeline and Process for Admission, but the timeline itself is published as an image rather than as text, with the surrounding detail in downloadable documents. An image is perfectly readable to a parent sitting in front of it and unreadable to anything transcribing it accurately, so we have transcribed nothing.

What can be said without inference is that the school is a named school on the shared arrangement, so the consortium registration deadline applied to it, and that the council dates above are the ones a Wolverhampton family applies under. For the school's own timeline, open the page.
